Tsuriai

(1 customer review)

The series Tsuriai, which is the Japanese word for balance, was produced during my one month travel in Japan. As many others, I have been struck by the duality of the country. Therefore I decided to present my series as diptychs – each of them presenting one modern and one traditional aspect of what I was seeing – Matej Sitar

Description

“[…]Tsuriai, the title of the series, is a rather rare Japanese expression for balance, equilibrium, which can be further related to the fine art context of the balance between various images of reality and elements of visual arts. Tsuriai is not an implication of a pretentious desire to define Japanese reality or a tendency to balance the two images.[…]
[…]The Tsuriai series deals with many important topics of the medium of photography. The author seeks to find the equilibrium between fine arts, formal rules of photography and the contents, between the photographer and the object, as well as the relation between the analogue and digital photography and the motif.[…] – from the accompanying text by Ida Hiršenfelder
